On February 24, 1995, U.S. diver Greg Louganis revealed in an interview with Barbra Walters that he had AIDS, and that he knew he was HIV positive when he hit his head on the diving board and bled into the pool at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. A doctor stitched his wound poolside without using latex gloves and then incredibly Louganis went on to win the gold medal in the event. Today Louganis is healthy and fit at the age of 61. In 2016 he was finally featured on the Wheaties box after fans petitioned for the honor. Louganis believes he was overlooked in the 80s because he is gay.

On Feb 23, 1999, Eminem crash landed onto the rap scene with the release of his major label debut, The Slim Shady LP. The album which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 was certified platinum within two months and created a superstar who would become rap's most infamous bogeyman. The album was buoyed by the MTV-born smash single “My Name Is.” which introduced the world to the rappers alter ego Slim Shady.

Here's one for my Canadian friends. On this day in 1996, the Shawinigan Handshake was born. When Prime Minister Jean Chretien was confronted by a protestor at a Flag Day Ceremony he took matters into his own hands - literally! Chretien grabbed the protestor by the throat and pushed him into the arms of police. This became know as the Shawinigan Handshake, named after the PM's home town.

Schwing! Guess who is celebrating an anniversary? On February 14, 1992 Wayne's World was released in theatres. The movie about hockey loving social misfits Wayne and Garth who host an all-access cable show was not expected to be a hit - but it soon became a sensation earning $183 million at the box office. Recently the 90s rockers reunited in a Superbowl commercial for UberEats. Looking much like he did nearly 30 years ago Wayne says "2020 was a great year…not!”

25 years ago today rapper Tupac Shakur released his monumental album All Eyez On Me making history as the first double-full-length solo Hip-Hop studio album ever released.
